The reality

When School Isn't Working, It Affects Everything

For many children with SEN, mainstream school can become overwhelming rather than supportive.

  • Anxiety around going to school
  • Behaviour that's misunderstood or escalates
  • Repeated calls, meetings, or exclusions
  • Falling behind or disengaging completely

For parents, it's exhausting. For schools, it's challenging. And for the child, it can feel like they don't belong anywhere.

A different perspective

The Child Isn't the Problem

Some children don't struggle because they're "difficult". They struggle because the environment isn't right for them. When the environment changes, things often begin to shift:

They feel safer
They settle
They start to engage again
What we provide

Testimonials

Children celebrating at Neat Chances

Oliver was one of the first children to join Neat's alternative provision. As a child with extensive needs, both from a neurodiverse aspect and health (ADHD, hypermobility and epilepsy) it was imperative he was understood from the outset. From beginning to end, his needs were more than met, enabling him to thrive upon leaving a year later.

From day 1 Oliver was met with kindness, understanding and a clear line of communication. Knowing Art, Ben and Grant gave him a sense of comfort and inclusion which enabled him to feel safe within a space he knew.

NEAT Chances communicated very well with the school, present for all reviews, engaging in any changes and amenable to any difficulties Oliver may have faced. Art is particularly good at 1-to-1 interaction, ensuring Oliver completed his weekly school tasks in a way that felt less stressful, rewarding him with praise at every hurdle.

NEAT is an incredible provision. Any child who is lucky to attend thrives. Oliver has grown in confidence, his mental health is in the best place it has ever been and he came away confident, happy and proud.

My grandson's experience at Neat Chances the last 6 months has been very positive, and he looks forward to going 4 times a week.

The most positive thing that we've noticed is he has become more sociable and has started to make friends, which is a big achievement for him. I have found all the staff to be very positive and make every session an enjoyable experience. The staff always remain calm and supportive during times where my grandson is dysregulated and this has been very beneficial to him.

Overall I think Neat has been a very positive place for my grandson to learn and socialise.

Questions

Common Questions

That's exactly what we help you figure out, honestly and without pressure. Our first conversation is about understanding your child's needs, not selling a place. You'll leave with clarity either way.

No. We focus on the child's needs, not labels. Many children we support are still awaiting assessment. What matters to us is whether they need a different environment to thrive.

Our focus is stability. We guide each step carefully to reduce stress for the child, the family, and the school. Transitions are handled thoughtfully and at the right pace.

No. It's for children who simply aren't thriving in mainstream settings. You don't need to be in crisis. Early support often makes the biggest difference and prevents things escalating further.
